Pre-release planning

The best time to sort housing is months before the release date.

Most housing crises for older returning citizens are not caused by a shortage of rooms. They are caused by starting three weeks before a release date, when nothing can be verified in time.

The sequence

What moves forward, and when.

Any application, correspondence, inspection and residence approval must comply with facility rules and the person's supervision conditions. This is the order that respects both.

  1. 1

    90+ days out

Agency opens a pre-release inquiry. We document requirements: area, budget, room type, supervision status, benefits status.

  2. 2

    60–90 days out

Benefits reviewed. If SSI, SSDI or retirement income is not yet in payment, the agency confirms what interim funding is actually authorised.

  3. 3

    30–60 days out

We confirm whether a suitable property exists. If not, we say so now rather than closer to the date.

  4. 4

    2–4 weeks out

Address submitted through the authorised supervision process where required. We supply property facts, not approval.

  5. 5

    Final week

Written acceptance, payment confirmation, signed terms. Only then is transport arranged.

What can and cannot be confirmed early

Can be confirmed before release

  • The type of housing we offer and its written terms
  • Whether we have a property in the target area
  • The real rate, deposit and what is included
  • Whether a specific accommodation request can be met
  • What information the address approval requires

Cannot be confirmed early

  • That a room will still be available on the release date
  • That benefits will be approved by a particular date
  • That an address will be approved
  • That the person will be released on the expected date
  • That any funding is guaranteed before it is authorised

Why we cannot hold a room

An inquiry is not a reservation. Holding a room across a release date that may move creates a vacancy someone else could have used, and a commitment we could not keep if the date shifted again. What we can do is confirm clearly and early whether housing of the right kind exists — so the plan is built on a real answer rather than an assumption.

Awaiting release on a tight deadline?

Call (984) 354-6690 and say so. A compressed timeline changes what is possible, but we would rather tell you quickly than have a referral arrive at the wrong week.
