Housing Intelligence · Local Research

Where our local housing information comes from.

We would rather point you to the source than paraphrase it. These are the public datasets and authorities we rely on for Wake County housing context — what each one actually covers, and what it cannot tell you.

Status: reviewed 29 October 2026. Links were checked and resolved on that date. Figures are deliberately not reproduced here — open the source for the current number, because a housing figure copied into a page becomes wrong quietly.

Wake County Housing Data Platform

Wake County Department of Housing Affordability & Community Revitalization

Open source
What it covers:
County-level demographics, jobs, housing supply, rental affordability and homeownership. Includes an interactive snapshot and comparison tool, and published reports including a 2025 Annual Housing Impact Report and a 2035 outlook on job growth and homes demanded.
What it cannot tell you:
Does not publish individual property availability, and does not track your specific applicant. County and neighbourhood aggregates only.
How we use it:
Understanding the scale and direction of housing need in Wake County when discussing demand with agencies.

North Carolina Housing Coalition — County Profiles

North Carolina Housing Coalition

Open source
What it covers:
A one-page profile for each of North Carolina's 100 counties and the state, covering cost-burdened households paying at least 30% of income for housing, earnings across occupations, and changes in home prices, foreclosures and evictions. Source periods stated include the 2019–2023 American Community Survey 5-year estimates, 2023 Occupational Employment Statistics, FY25 Fair Market Rents and FY23–24 civil issue filings.
What it cannot tell you:
Figures are estimates for a period, not live rents. A Fair Market Rent is a program benchmark, not what a specific room actually costs.
How we use it:
Explaining why a budget that looks workable on paper may not secure housing in Wake County.

NC Department of Adult Correction — Rehabilitation and Reentry

North Carolina Department of Adult Correction

Open source
What it covers:
Public information on the Department's rehabilitation and reentry division, including the Reentry 2030 strategic plan, community supervision divisions and district office contacts.
What it cannot tell you:
Includes data and reports broadly. It does not list housing providers or housing availability for a specific person.
How we use it:
Directing professionals and families to the authoritative source for supervision offices, release questions and reentry framework.

Post Release Supervision and Parole Commission

North Carolina Department of Adult Correction

Open source
What it covers:
The statutory body responsible for post-release supervision and parole decisions.
What it cannot tell you:
Does not approve a specific residence for you, and cannot be replaced by anything PHS says about address approval.
How we use it:
Explaining clearly that residence approval is a decision for the supervising authority — not for a housing provider.

What we will not publish without real records

Agency feedback, internal survey results, placement counts, occupancy figures and outcomes are not published unless actual records support them. If a number on this site matters to your decision, ask us where it came from and we will tell you — including when the answer is that we do not have it yet.
