For Agencies
Veterans’ Housing Organizations
Veterans’ housing teams need specific information — room format, cost structure, what is included and what a property can accept — before a plan can move. We welcome conversations about the housing needs you see and the requirements your team works to.
The housing challenge
Why this problem is harder than it looks
Veterans' housing teams need concrete facts before a plan can move — room format, cost structure, what is included, and what a property can actually accept. Vague housing information stalls a plan as effectively as no housing at all.
This is an agency pathway
Our process for your setting
Four steps, and what each one produces.
This is the same sequence we use with every partner — the questions change, the structure does not.
- 1
Understand local housing needs
We document the counties, household sizes, formats and gaps you actually see.
- 2
Document requirements
What your process requires before a destination is approved, and who is authorized.
- 3
Develop suitable arrangements
Properties, terms and responsibilities worked through against the documented requirements.
- 4
Coordinate documented next steps
A named owner, a next action and a due date on the record — followed up rather than assumed.
Practical checklist
Five things to prepare.
Work these through internally first. If you bring them to a first call, the conversation gets twice as far.
- 01Map where veteran housing need is concentrated by county
- 02Record typical household size and preferred room formats
- 03Note affordability ranges and payer categories, including authorized assistance
- 04Estimate the referral volume you would realistically bring
- 05Document what outside supports are already arranged
What we will ask
About your requirements
- Counties where veteran housing need is concentrated
- Typical household size and preferred room formats
- Affordability ranges and payer categories, including authorized housing assistance
- Referral volume you would realistically bring
- What your team must verify before a housing destination is approved
- Documentation expectations and authorized contacts
- How outside support services are arranged and maintained
Independent, nonmedical housing
This housing model does not include personal care, clinical treatment, medication management or supervision. Outside supports are arranged independently where appropriate. Accommodation requests receive individualized review — we do not apply blanket exclusions based on disability or the use of assistive devices.
Outside supports
What housing does not cover.
Independent housing does not include clinical treatment, personal care or case management. VA and community-based supports are arranged separately by your team or the veteran. We make no representation about VA approval, eligibility or payment.

Veteran Shared Housing PlanningQuestions
Answers for your setting.
If your question is not here, ask it directly. We answer approved public information and route everything else to the person who can.
Ask a questionDo you have VA approval or a VA partnership?
No, and we will not claim one. We make no representation about VA approval, eligibility or payment. Any VA-related support is arranged by your team or the veteran.
Can authorized housing assistance pay for a room?
That depends on the terms of the assistance and the individual case, not on us. We document payer category separately for each person and are explicit that a referral does not authorize payment.
Is shared housing suitable for a veteran who needs support?
It can be, provided the support is arranged separately. Our model does not include clinical treatment, personal care or case management — those stay with your team or the veteran's existing providers.
What we do not guarantee
We do not guarantee beds, funding, referrals, occupancy, placement or discharge outcomes. A referral does not guarantee acceptance, and acceptance does not confirm funding. What we do commit to is a documented process, a named owner on your inquiry and an honest answer — including when the answer is that we are not the right fit.
Other agency pathways
Your setting may span more than one.
Where a case sits between two pathways, pick the closest and note the other in your inquiry. We will route it either way.
Hospital Discharge Planners & Social Workers
Practical destinations for patients who can live independently.
Case Managers & Nonprofit Housing Teams
Documented need, shared with the people developing the housing.
Reentry Organizations & Probation/Parole Teams
Address approval and housing readiness, discussed honestly.
Start with a housing-needs conversation.
No commitment, and no placement promised — just a structured conversation about what your team actually needs.
