Who we are
Preferred Housing Network is a veteran-led, independent shared-housing company working in Raleigh, Wake County and the Triangle.
We develop shared housing for independent adults and we connect that housing to the agencies, hospitals, reentry teams, veterans' organisations and navigators whose placements are hardest to make. Our purpose is to fill beds that already need filling — with housing that actually matches documented demand.
We are state-specific by design. Our operating focus is North Carolina, beginning with Wake County and the surrounding Triangle counties, with expansion planned for Charlotte, Fayetteville and Greenville.
Our housing model
An independent shared house is a rented home where adults hold individual room arrangements within a shared household. It is ordinary residential housing — a lease or room agreement, shared common space and the privacy of a private room where that is the arrangement in place.
It is not a facility, a care setting, a treatment programme or a supervised environment. There is no on-site staffing, no clinical service and no medication management.
Shared housing works for a specific person when they can live independently in a household — moving around the home, using the kitchen and bathroom, and evacuating without physical assistance — and where any support they need comes from outside the household, arranged by them or by their agency.
Independent housing boundaries
What we provide: a room, a home, a rent that is set and documented, and an honest answer about whether a specific arrangement fits a specific person.
What we do not provide: personal care, clinical or behavioural treatment, supervision, medication management, case management or crisis response. We do not accept responsibility for clinical or custodial requirements that belong with another provider.
What we will never claim: programme approval we do not have, funding we cannot confirm, availability we have not verified, or a partnership that does not exist.
Accommodation requests are reviewed individually against the actual property — access, layout and evacuation. We do not apply blanket exclusions, and we will tell you honestly when a property cannot meet a need.
Agency housing demand questionnaire
The demand question we ask every agency is simple: who are you having trouble housing, and where?
We ask about populations, difficult locations, acceptable independent arrangements, realistic monthly budgets, whether private or shared rooms are appropriate, needed property features, required programme approvals and usual placement timelines.
We never ask for, and do not want, confidential client lists or diagnoses. Your answers shape which properties we pursue — they are not a waiting list.
Open the demand questionnaireProperty verification process
Every property we work with moves through five checks before it appears anywhere as available: landlord inquiry, property review, legal-use verification, operator match where appropriate, and a final verified-availability state.
Legal-use verification means the lawful use, occupancy limit and any registration requirement for that specific property have been checked — not inferred from a similar property down the road.
Availability is published only after the last check, with its real facts and a last-verified date. If a property cannot lawfully or safely support the arrangement, it does not proceed.
See the property partner pathwayReferral procedures
Stage one is a professional inquiry: your organisation's contact, destination county, timing, household size, room preference and approximate budget. It contains nothing about a specific person.
Stage two happens only after human review, through a separately configured protected channel, with the authority and consent appropriate to the referral and access restricted to minimum necessary information. Client names, dates of birth, diagnoses and case records never travel through this public site.
Referral, housing acceptance and payment authorisation are three separate steps. A referral is not an acceptance, and a referral is not funding.
Start a professional inquiryContact and staffing
Every inquiry reaches the Housing Partnership Desk, where it receives a reference, an owner, a backup and a next-action date.
Our public phone number and staffed hours are published once verified and staffed. Until then, the inquiry forms and the requesting of a 10–15 minute appointment are the reliable routes.
